The Panhandle
July 11, 2026
I am sitting in the Panhandle, and there is a mime show. San Francisco Mime Troupe. It is about to start, what luck! I hope it’s good. One thing is for sure, their stage set is awesome, and they’re playing some great tunes. The set looks like it’s hand painted, and the back of it is panelized into strips, where each strip is an equilateral triangle in plan, so their extrusions have three sides, meaning they can be rotated to represent three distinct scenes.
I’d love to paint something like that, and if you don’t want to look at one side anymore you can just change it to another painting and look at that instead. How modern. Imagine that on your wall with a little button or a crank. What would the sides be? One for each mood you might want to set. One day, one night, one dawn or dusk. Maybe three colors are dominant, which can be changed with the seasons. Maybe one or two are risque and when respectable company comes over, you change it to a side that is less offensive?
Would be a good thing to have for the capricious type like me.
One thing of serious note before the show begins: the trees here must be very old. They are large and their bark is mesmerizing.
